Selected work
Each project asks a different question: how do you make a configurator calm, how do you keep a growing catalogue coherent, how do you make learning progress visible, and how do you turn a good intention into a routine people can actually repeat?
Design philosophy
I help businesses and their customers solve complex experience challenges through research-driven, accessible and human-centred product design.
Every screen should answer what this is, what it costs and what happens next before it tries to impress anyone.
People arrive tired, distracted and on small screens. Designing for that reality is what makes an experience kind.
If a journey fails with a keyboard, a screen reader or low contrast, it is not finished — regardless of how it looks.
Reusable patterns, honest documentation and careful UI reviews protect consistency long after a project ships.
Core capabilities
Strategy and craft, held together by accessibility and a habit of shipping alongside engineers.
Framing the real problem before shaping the interface, and aligning it with business intent.
Configurators, previews, pricing logic and purchase journeys made calm and predictable.
Field conversations, secondary research, personas and usability reviews that guide decisions.
Consistent behaviour from small phones to large desktops, designed mobile-first.
Structuring dense catalogues, options and steps into journeys people can follow.
WCAG-aware colour, focus, semantics and interaction patterns as a default, not an add-on.
Reusable interface patterns, tokens and documentation that keep products coherent.
Growing designers from fresher to senior through review, feedback and shared craft.
Developer-ready specs, implementation support and hands-on UI quality assurance.
Using AI responsibly to explore, draft and accelerate without losing design judgement.
Leadership & mentoring
Leading design has meant growing people, protecting consistency and staying close enough to implementation that the final product matches the intent.
Translating business requirements into product problems
Reviewing UX and visual design
Mentoring designers
Establishing reusable patterns
Protecting responsive consistency
Supporting developer handoff
Reviewing implementation quality
Helping teams work through urgent priorities without treating every deadline as permission to compromise the experience
Developer collaboration & UI quality
A polished Figma file is not the final product. I stay involved through implementation so the behaviour, hierarchy and responsive intent survive the handoff.
AI-assisted design workflow
I use ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude where they can shorten repetitive or exploratory work while keeping product direction and design judgement human-led.
Generate alternative structures, flows and content hierarchies so I can compare approaches faster.
Surface counterarguments, edge cases and accessibility considerations that may expose assumptions.
Create first-pass documentation, interface copy alternatives and structured summaries for careful editing.
Reduce time spent reorganising information so more time can go into judgement, review and iteration.
AI output is never treated as research evidence. Every suggestion is checked against:
Real mini-case
I used an AI-assisted build workflow to turn a focused workplace-lunch problem into a live responsive product. AI accelerated exploration, content structuring and implementation, while I retained ownership of the product model, interaction priorities, health boundaries, accessibility and final design judgement.
See the FitBite Desk case studyPersonal journey
Nineteen years, self-taught foundations, and a career built one deliberate step at a time.
2005
I was working part-time on project-bidding documentation to support my family, and found design along the way.
2006
With no formal design education, I followed my curiosity into HTML and CSS and taught myself using software documentation.
2007
Three days away from work, one interview, and my first Junior Web Designer position on real, shipping products.
2010s
New technologies, family responsibilities and increasingly complex products repeatedly required me to learn again — moving from visual design into product thinking.
2017
Took ownership of complex personalised-product journeys, reusable patterns and cross-team design quality.
Today
I lead design direction, mentor designers and bridge business, engineering and research with 19+ years of practice.
Beyond design
Craft teaches patience. Creating macramé reminds me that complex outcomes are often built from simple elements repeated carefully. Every knot has a relationship with the next. That same attention to sequence, structure and detail appears in how I think about interfaces.
Curiosity keeps my design practice moving. Continuous learning helps me question familiar methods, understand new possibilities and decide which tools genuinely improve the work. I am particularly interested in how AI can accelerate exploration without replacing product judgement.
Calm improves how I listen. Meditation and gratitude help me slow down enough to notice context, emotion and nuance. That practice influences how I work with users and teams: listen before assuming, understand before reacting, and make decisions with greater intention.
Let's talk
If you are building a product with dense workflows, customisation, responsive complexity or accessibility requirements, I would be happy to talk about the problem.
